Thanks Chris.
They looked really close to hatching last night so I decided to hit the lights and turn off the pumps for an hour just in case. Good thing I did because they hatched! They are now in a ten gallon full of rotifers and pyhto. I'll try to get some pics but it's pretty hard to see them with the naked eye, much less a camera lens. |

Thanks guys! I'm terrible at estimating, but I would say there's around 75ish or so. They still look good, they have silver bellies which I think means theyre eating right? I have seen a couple strike at rotifers.
I also collected some other larvae by accident. The only other pairs if things I have in the tank are sexy shrimp and blue leg hermit crabs crabs. I have seen sexy shrimp larvae so it must be hermit crab larvae. They are about half the size of the clowns. I wonder if they eat rotifers? |

Yes silver bellies means they are eating.
I have no idea what crab or shrimp larva might eat. That would be cool of whatever they are made it too. |

Cool. Whatever the invert larvae are, some of them are still alive.
We had another spawn today@ Only 10 days after their last one. That's pretty quick. It's a little smaller because I put in a tile and they tried to lay around it. Still, it's a decent sized nest. I'll collect this batch too. |

I just have ambient room light on them. The lights in the room are on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours.
The phyto has cleared up and I don't have as many as I thought I did. Maybe 10-20. I wonder why I lost some. I don't see any bodies. I have noticed some baby brine shrimp in there the last few days which is strange. There must have been eggs in the tank. I wonder if the fry could have eaten some of the shells? I'll clean out the next tank thoroughly. Here's another video from today: Last edited by chris&barb; 04-21-2011 at 09:59 AM. |

well.......that sucks big time blake.....so sorry....
did you thoroughly clean/sterilize that baby tank before setting it up for this batch? lighting is very important - they need it to hunt....I'd recommend putting a cheapo 3watt clip-on light about a foot above the baby tank and diffuse it with a couple layers of paper towels....keep it on like that for the first 3 days...I also think that whatever was swimming with them was not good for them...was your temperature the same as the parent tank? was the salinity the same as the parent tank?

No big deal, it happens. It was a new tank, so no I did not sterilize it.
Thanks for the tip on the light. They have plenty of light from 11am-11pm because they are right next to the growout system and get indirect light from there. I'll figure something out for at night. I took water directly from the parent tank and the larvae went in minutes later, so there was no change in params. |

I have a feeling that Barb is gonna say that the indirect light is a no/no and that they need their own light from directly above the tank.
