Any powerhead you add to a display tank causes the risk on an anemone getting sucked in or stuck. Generally we recommend using a sponge or something on the intake to diffuse the suction power but I don't know how you could do that with an ecotech pump.
Now with that being said, if the nem has proper flow and light it shouldn't travel and therefore shouldn't get caught in a pump. I'd also think with the flow that's created form one of these pumps if the nem were to get close it may just get blown away, but not sure as I don't have an ecotech pump. |

are you talking about the ecotech vortech MP series?? I have no idea what the 400 is
![]() BUT, each of the MPs comes with a foam guard that wraps around the intake, that would work perfectly in protecting your nem. Many don't like to use those though cuz they require extra cleaning, and clog up with gunk often The MPs don't suck as much as you think, but if a nem was to walk by I could totally see a few tentacles getting wrapped around the impeller and strewn across your tank (which would be a bad thing )

i use an MP10 on a 29g tank with a carpet anemone in it and havent had any problems. like Craig said, if the light and flow are right the anemone shouldnt move around much. you could start out with the foam guard on the pump for a few weeks and see how the anemone reacts. if it stays put take the foam off and keep an eye for movement of the anemone.
