A worker at my lfs told me that peole have been dyeing nems to sell them at a higher price. I didnt get a chance to ask the owner about this. Anyone heard of this? Im wondering if this theory has been presented by people who had their nem expel the zoo's and turn white. I hope it isnt true.

I haven't seen any either, but what I have seen is bleached nems that are almost dead being sold as exotics because of the white coloring.

I think a little of both. There are nems out there that are cool, but most of them aren't what they seem.

they do creep up from time to time - you will see them when you find nems that really arent the colors they are supposed to be... like yellow, or orange
![]() the nem's usually recover, but, they do loose the dye, so if you paid $200 for a yellow nem, it will soon be just a brown/green LTA in no time and you'll feel like a total retard if you are looking for a BTA type of nem, I recommend buying a clone from a fellow reefer - they split often, and you know the nem is acclimated to tank life, and a happy fellow. When you buy one at the LFS - unless it is an excellent LFS (and you know who these are), your nem is going to change colors significantly over its life once you bring it home

They had a bright orange nem at the LFS. It was beautiful. I didnt know they came in Flyers orange! The orange color was what sparked him telling me about the dye. Funny that, that is one of the colors estanoche stated. Im sure not a coicidence. The nem was only 45$ and didnt have a species listed. The owner wasnt in the store, and the employee didnt know the species. Someone bought it later that day. I may not get an answer if it was really an orange nem or dyed. It looked like a BTA without the bulbs. I didnt look at the base to see if it was a BTA or not. Now that I know better i cringe when i see white nems for sale.

I dont think it was a BTA. The whole nem was bright orange. It was uniform. Even the base. Ive seen plenty of the rose BTA's, I dont think this was one. It was about the size of most the condy's you see. Well atleast the size we get shipped to NJ lol. It was only 45$ also. I wish I had a pic. I may be getting an Iphone soon, so next time Ill be able to have a pic to share. My current phone has a crappy camera. Some of you guys are from DE right? I need to find some more people that have reeftanks in my area. Maybe join a NJ or PA reefclub. Frag swapping sounds like fun.

Delaware has a good Reef Club, but the president can be a pain in the butt sometimes.
![]() We meet in northern De during the school year, you are probability about as far from the meetings as I am, plus we do summer meetings sometimes. You can check us out at Delaware Reef Club - Home |

Thanks Pat for the link. Im about hour and a 1/2 from DE so not too bad. No worries Barb Im probably a year away from buying a nem. When I get closer Ill ask all of you your opinions, or see if anyone has a freshly spilt nem I can take off their hands. My LFS guy told me that July is is his slowest month. I put that info in my back pocket, and figure Ill do a big order with him next July and try to beat him up good

What is you opinion on Aquarium Center? I go on vacation at the end of the month to Sea Isle City, NJ. Might be a fun detour on the way home in case I buy something ! I already plan on stopping at Captain Nemo's Aquarium Superstore on the way home, one more can't hurt!

Worth the stop Id say. They have about 6 tanks with corals, another 6 with inverts, and a bunch of sw fish tanks. Their freshwater collection is impressive. They have an entire wall of freshwater plants which is cool also. The fish and inverts seem very healthy and the owner Dominic is very nice. Id love to give you a comparison but I have only been to 3 other stores that sold sw fish. All 3 of those were horrid, and 2 of them are thankfully gone. I like it there if that helps.
