as the title says my new anemone lost the fight with power head.
Part of it looks chewed pretty bad. it smells a little funny too. I am debating dividing it hoping part will live. I will post pictures soon. more than half of it looks fine. What should i do? ideas please. thanks Kevin

Do you have any pics of the nem. Maybe there is a place you can cut it to help it survive. If you can cut through the mouth it should survuve. I had a similar thing happen once with a bubble tip. Even had a small rip in the foot that healed up too. I manually divided it and after some time I had two

yes they do like to powerhead surf. you may need to shut down some of the power heads for it to attach somewhere then one by one turn them back on and keep an eye on it to see if it detatches again. What kind of anemone is it?

That looks like a bubble tip. You may be able to save it if the foot wasnt pulled all the way through and torn on the very bottom. once you get it out of the second power head try to cut off the damaged part keeping as much of the good part as you can. try to think of it as a starfish. as long as you have a good portion of the mouth It has a good chance of surviving. It will smell bad for a few weeks as parts die off and the new parts regenerate. Do not try and feed it even after it has closed up again and starts looking like a normal anemone. It takes way too much energy for them to expel waste and they need all they can get to heal up.

they have found a good spot that they like. the new one was freaking out and when they are stressed they let go to find a better place faster than they could by walking. The larger RBTA has gorgeous color.

like these guys said, just leave your pumps off until it is actually attached somewhere again.... your other corals can handle the lack of flow for a couple days
![]() once it actually sticks to something again then ull be safe to turn ur pumps back on. Often you will tear it up getting it outta the powerhead too - so if you have to pull or tug on it, just let it remove itself on its own... can take a couple of hours.... you will know if hes gonna make it or not in a day - you will smell it

Just keep an eye on them. Their metabolic rate is very slow so it may take a few days before you really know for sure it's dead. Just make sure to use a turkey baster to remove it if it does die. It's the easiest way without spreading the bits all over the tank.

wish I had known that when another one i had died! wow that mad a mess in the tank. it was like atomic bomb went off under water and there was no were for the fish to hide from it. I sizable water change fixed it.
So I put I the two halves of my anemone in a floating fry container it still gets the flow and light it needs and i get piece of mind that I will not have to wonder if it is attacking my power again. plus it will be easy to locate. Last edited by skywardview; 03-25-2011 at 02:59 AM. |

Half is looking great. the other may be on its way out. I will have to have my friend smell the bad half since i can not smell most of the time. I will post pics from my iphone when i get a chance. I am wondering if maybe a dip in Coral RX would help? input please. I wonder if that would help the anemone to heal faster?

Not sure what that dip would do to an anemone. Maybe someone else on here can help with that. I personally would NOT recommend it. Only for lack of knowledge with the Coral RX dipping. I would suggest contacting the company and asking their opinion on using it with an anemone.
